My very first favorite verse was Psalm 63:3, “Because Your loving kindness is better than life, my lips will praise You. This was and is my personal testimony in a nutshell. The reason this passage became so powerful to me was because it answered THE question that almost every friend and family member asked me. I constantly heard, “So, why did you become a Christian?” Simply put, His love was the greatest thing I had ever experienced up to that point in my life. Nothing has changed since my initial encounter with the risen Lord on July 7th, 1985. Happiness came and went on a frequent basis. It never stuck around too long. I was upset about something all the time. The one thing that I desired more than anything was peace internally. There was consistent conflict externally in my home growing up and that finds it’s way on the inside. Looking back I can see how that accumulates over time and it becomes a type of cancer. It created bitterness and resentment. I didn’t understand why most of my friends had a mom and dad at home but I didn’t. Why should I suffer for the decisions of other people. Life wasn’t fair. This is not a unique mindset. Dwelling on injustice will shorten your life and steal your joy. What changed was someone loving and bold enough to share the injustice of the gospel with me. Jesus didn’t get what He deserved. Why should He die for someone else’s sin? How fair is that? The huge difference between my life and the life that Jesus lived is that He embraced injustice and I loathed it. The cross is that the greatest injustice in the history of the world. Why would Jesus endure such injustice? Because He loved me and His love is better than life! Life isn’t fair and boy am I grateful for that! -Pastor John

Most Memorable Moment in Ministry: Counseling a couple whose marriage was suffering, and having the opportunity to watch God restore the relationship. Then two years later, receiving an email from the wife saying, “I never thought I would love my husband again.”
