A COUPLE OF REASONS FOR THE HOPE THAT WE HAVE WITHIN US!
I. FIRST, THERE ARE REASONS THAT WE HAVE BAPTIZED NEW BELIEVERS INTO THE FAMILY OF GOD
A. WE HAVE BAPTISM BECAUSE OF OUR LORD’S INSTRUCTION

Matthew 28:19-20
ENGLISH NOUN: “baptism” =
GREEK NOUN: “baptisma” = “the act of immersing, dipping, or submerging in liquid” (21 NT Occurrences)

FROM GREEK VERB: “baptizo” = “to immerse, to dip, to submerge”(81 NT Occurrences)
PLEASE NOTE THE IMPORTANT DISTINCTION BETWEEN:
THE GREEK WORD: “baptizo” =
“to immerse, to dip, to submerge”
AND GREEK WORD: “antéxomai” = “to sprinkle”

A. WE HAVE BAPTISM BECAUSE OF OUR LORD’S INSTRUCTION
B. WE HAVE BAPTISM BECAUSE OF OUR LORD’S INTENTION

“Don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? __We were therefore buriedwith him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.” Romans 6:3-4

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20

A. WE HAVE BAPTISM BECAUSE OF OUR LORD’S INSTRUCTION
B. WE HAVE BAPTISM BECAUSE OF OUR LORD’S INTENTION
C. WE HAVE BAPTISM BECAUSE OF OUR LORD’S INVITATION

“God wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and man-kind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people.”
I Timothy 2:3-6

“Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.”
Acts 2:38
“See, here is water! What prevents me from being baptized this very day?” Acts 8:36
II. NEXT, THERE ARE REASONS THAT WE HAVE COMMUNED AS MEMBERS OF THE FAMILY OF GOD
A. WE HAVE COMMUNION BECAUSE OF OUR LORD’S INSTRUCTION
“Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ?” 1 Corinthians 10:16 NIV
“The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break,is it not the communion of the body of Christ?” 1 Corinthians 10:16 KJV

KJV: “communion” =
NIV: “participation” =
GREEK: “koinōnia” =
“that which is shared in common as the basis of fellowship ”
(19 NT occurrences)

ACCOUNTS OF THE ORIGIN OF THIS MEAL CAN BE FOUND IN ALL FOUR GOSPELS:
Matthew, chapter 26
Mark, chapter 14
Luke, chapter 22
John, chapters 13-17
The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
I Corinthians 11:23b-25

A. WE HAVE COMMUNION BECAUSE OF OUR LORD’S INSTRUCTION
B. WE HAVE COMMUNION BECAUSE OF OUR LORD’S INTENTION
“For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.” I Corinthians 11:26

A. WE HAVE COMMUNION BECAUSE OF OUR LORD’S INSTRUCTION
B. WE HAVE COMMUNION BECAUSE OF OUR LORD’S INTENTION
C. WE HAVE COMMUNION BECAUSE OF OUR LORD’S INVITATION

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12

“I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them. Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me will live because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your forefathers ate manna and died, but only those who feed on this bread will live forever.”John 6:53-58
